The red wine from Priorat Tirant is a benchmark for full-bodied and powerful wines. The name “Tirant” refers to the main character of Tirant lo Blanc, a chivalry novel written in catalan by Joanot Martorell in the 15th century.
Back to this Spanish red wine, it is made from a blend of five varieties. The two main grapes are Grenache and Carignan, complemented with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Alcoholic fermentation took place in a 5,000-litre truncated cone-shaped vat under controlled temperature. This type of vat is used to enhance the aromatic expression of the wine and to further extract the grape pigments which give the wine its color. This fermentation process was homogenized with six daily pump-overs.
This bold red wine from Priorat of bodega Rotllan Torra was then transferred into French oak barrels (Tronçais) for malolactic fermentation. Once the process was completed, the wine was aged in the barrels for 12 months.
Then the wine was blended. Finally, Tirant 2017 was aged for some years in the bottle before hitting the market.
Decant this Crianza red wine at least 2 hours before drinking.
