This is the new vintage of an interesting Spanish red wine from Ribera del Duero. As usual, Tionio is a single varietal Tinto Fino (aka Tempranillo).
Produced by Bodega Tionio, half of the grapes come from La Asperilla, a 25-year-old vineyard with limestone and sandy soils located in the village of Peñafiel, at 800 metres of altitude. The other half was sourced from two vineyards, located in Pedrosa de Duero and Olmedillo de Roa.
The grapes were manually harvested. Once in the cellar, this red wine from Ribera del Duero fermented under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-overs and punch-downs to maximize skin maceration.
After that, Tionio 2017 was transferred into 2nd year French oak barrels, where it was aged for 15 months before its bottling.
Aerate this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
