A terroir-driven Spanish red wine produced by Celler Sanmartí, Sanmartí 1018 Garnatxa Sumoll is the proof that Pla del Bages, a region which for many years relied mostly on French varieties, has taken important steps towards the recovery of its rich wine heritage.
A blend of Grenache and Sumoll, two varieties which complement each other exceptionally well, the grapes were sourced from estate-owned, certified organic vineyards.
Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the grapes were refrigerated on arriving at the cellar. Then each variety was separately vinified: the Grenache was fermented whole-bunch in tiled diposits, and the Sumoll was fermented in open wooden vats. After that, the first variety was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, and the second was aged in stainless steel tanks and tiled diposits. Finally, the red wine Sanmartí 1018 Garnatxa Sumoll 2017 was blended, stabilized, filtered and clarified before bottling.
