Driven by his desire to craft ever more terroir-oriented, site-specific Spanish red wines, Josep Grau Viticultor has produced two single varietal Grenache wines coming from the same plot and in exactly the same manner.
Made from vines located in the Serra d’Almos, south of DO Montsant, the only difference between the two wines is that Rogers is made from vineyards planted in slate soils, while its counterpart Maimó 2016 is made from vines planted in clayey and limestone soils.
Farmed following organic procedures and minimal intervention techniques, the grapes were harvested by hand, selected thrice and then fermented and macerated in a truncated cone-shaped vat. Afterwards, Rogers 2016 was aged in a 2,000-litre Austrian Stockinger oak vat for 14 months.
Not filtered or clarified before its bottling, this new red wine by Josep Grau produced in Montsant should be decanted 1 hour before drinking.
Drink over the next 6 years.
Very limited production. Only 1,775 bottles.
