Produced by Bodegas Palacios Vinos de Finca-Proelio, the red wine Proelio Reserva is made from a classic DOCa Rioja blend: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Grenache and 5% Graciano.
Aged 50 to 80, the low-yielding vineyards are at altitudes between 460 and 720 metres above sea level. Each variety is planted in a different type of soil: calcareous silt, iron-rich clay and calcareous sand. This fact gives an impressive complexity to this Spanish red wine.
On arriving at the winemaking facilities, the hand-picked grapes of Tempranillo and Graciano were fully destemmed, whereas the Grenache grapes were fermented whole bunch. The grapes were fermented in oak vats with wild yeasts and periodic stirrings.
Then this red wine from La Rioja was gently pressed and completed malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks and Bordeaux barrels.
Finally, the red wine Proelio Reserva 2017 was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels and for 3 months in 4,000-litre wooden vats.
After being bottled, this Reserva red wine was aged for a further 20 months in the bottle.
Decant 1 hour before drinking.
