Produced in the western Catalan region of Costers del Segre, Missenyora is a varietal Spanish white wine made solely from Macabeo.
Crafted by L’Olivera Cooperativa, the 2020 harvest began in late August and went on until mid October.
The grapes were harvested by hand and whole bunch pressed. Then this white wine from Costers del Segre was fermented in 80% American and 20% French oak barrels, and subsequently aged for 4 months with weekly stirrings.
Interestingly, the winery recovered an old technique that consists in adding concentrated wine must – obtained through boiling – to this Crianza white wine (the proportion being 9 to 10 grams per litre). Because of that fact, Missenyora 2020 shows a great balance between acidity and sweetness.
By the way, Missenyora, (which literally means «Milady»), was the way people addressed the abbess of the Vallbona de les Monges Monastery, which is a stone’s throw away from the winery.
10,665 bottles produced.
