Produced by bodega Mestres, Mestres Visol Gran Reserva Brut Nature differs from most Cavas in that the base wine is aged for 6 months on lees in barrels, something which gives this Spanish sparkling wine a distinctive personality.
Interestingly, this was the first no-sugar added Cava ever produced by the winery. Thereof the name Vi-sol (meaning «Only wine»).
It is made from 45% Xarel·lo, 35% Macabeo and 20% Parellada. Half of the grapes come from over 50-year-old vineyards, and 40% of them are over 25 years of age.
After a manual harvest, the wine was fermented in barrels, where it was aged on lees for 6 months. Once bottled, Mestres Visol Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2015 was aged for 60 months and manually disgorged on the date printed on the back label.
Aerate this Brut Nature Gran Reserva Cava some time before you drink it.
