A modern classic from Rioja, Marqués de Vargas Reserva is made from a blend of Tempranillo, Mazuelo (Carignan) and Grenache.
It was produced by the Marqués de Vargas winery from vines 35 years old on average. They are farmed following environmentally friendly practices that exclude the use of chemicals, herbicides and insecticides.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs and punch-downs.
After 12 days, this red wine from La Rioja underwent malolactic fermentation and was transferred into new and used French and Russian oak barrels.
There, this Spanish red wine was aged for 18 months. During the process, it was drawn off every 5-6 months. Finally, the wine was bottled unclarified and unfiltered, and subsequently aged for a further 24 months in the bottle prior to its release.
