Produced by Celler de l’Encastell from the traditional varieties Grenache (the main component) and Carignan, Marge is complemented with variable amounts of the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
Even more important than its composition, though, is the fact that this Spanish red wine comes from Priorat. Specifically, the grapes were sorted from two vineyards, Mas d’en Ferran i Els Arbres, both of which have the typical llicorella (slate) soils which give the region its distinctive personality.
The grapes were picked by hand and meticulously selected on arriving at the cellar. Then they were destemmed and macerated with the skins for 15 days. This Crianza red wine was afterwards fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, after which it completed malolactic fermentation. Finally, Marge 2018 was aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.
It is advisable to decant this Priorat red wine at least 20 minutes before drinking.
