Produced by legendary René Barbier, owner of Clos Mogador, Manyetes is a varietal Carignan from DOQ Priorat. Nowadays, few would dispute that the region is the cradle of some the world’s purest, deepest Carignan wines.
The grapes of this single vineyard Spanish red wine are sourced from a 10-hectare plot with slate soils located on the outskirts of Gratallops, at 350 metres of altitude. In order to survive there, the vines must endure extreme climatic conditions.
Picked by hand, the grapes were fermented in 300-litre open barrels and vats with indigenous yeasts, performing punch-downs and pump-overs along the process. After being draw-off, this Vi de Vila (Village Wine) went through a spontaneous malolactic fermentation, and then it was aged for 18 months in 300-litre oak barrels.
Bottled in June 2021, Manyetes 2019 was aged for over 2 years in the bottle before being released onto the market.
It is essential to decant this reserva red wine from Priorat 2 hous before drinking, at the very least.
