Produced by bodega Los Insensatos de la Antehojuela, a young winery from DO Montilla-Moriles, Los Insensatos La Condená is a one-off Spanish white wine in the most literal sense of the word.
Why? Because this white wine from Montilla-Moriles was sourced from an old Pedro Ximénez vineyard which, unfortunately, was pulled out after the 2021 harvest. That is the reason why the name is called «La Condená» (which can be translated as «The Doomed.»)
The vines were planted in Viña La Estrella, a parcel with tosca de antehojuela soils – a kind of soil slightly coarser than the traditional Albarizas of Sherry country – situated in Pago de Benavente, Sierra de Montilla, at 520 metres of altitude.
Hand-harvested in August 20, 2021, the grapes were destemmend and crushed before being gently pressed with a pneumatic press, after which they were drawn-off for 24 to 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation took place in concrete vessels under controlled temperature.
After that, Los Insensatos La Condená 2021 was aged for 11 months under the flor veil in the same vessels.
This old-vines Pedro Ximénez is a one-of-a-kind wine.
1,974 bottles produced.
