One of the bottlings of the «Singularities» collection, Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau is produced by the Orto Vins winery, run by master oenologist Joan Asens.
This small-production red wine from Montsant is the most singular of all the wines that compose the collection. In fact, one could justifiably say that this Spanish red wine is unlike any other wine in the world.
Why? Because it is a varietal Picapoll Negre, an extremely rare grape variety indigenous to Catalonia and Southern France.
Moreover, the wine comes from a single, ungrafted, pre-phylloxeric, 0.2 hectare vineyard planted in 1880 in the heart of the Montsant region. The vines are farmed with the utmost care, following strict organic and biodynamic procedures.
After a meticulous harvest, this varietal Crianza red wine was fermented in 500-litre barrels for over a period of 28 days, that is, over a complete lunar cycle.
After that, Les Tallades de Cal Nicolau 2016 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and for a further months in the cellar prior to its release.
Extremely limited production.
