As the winery’s portfolio demonstrates, the manager of the Jaume de Puntiró winery, Mr. Pere Calafat, is a strong believer in the potential of Majorca’s native grapes. The white wine Jaume de Puntiró Brisat is a prime example of his commitment.
It is made from Giró Ros, a very interesting pre-phylloxera variety with an elegant aromatic profile and a high natural alcohol content. Its high sensitivity to diseases and environmental conditions, though, makes it rather difficult to grow, this being the main reason why it almost became extinct some decades ago.
This varietal organic white wine from DO Binissalem-Mallorca is made from a single plot of «call vermell» soils – a type of soil with a high ferrous content – at an altitude of 120 metres above sea level. The vines are farmed following organic and biodynamic procedures.
Both in Catalonia and in the Balearic Islands, the name brisat wine describes what is essentially an orange wine. Thus, after being manually harvested, Jaume de Puntiró Brisat 2021 was fermented with the stems and the skins and macerated for several weeks.
Pair this white wine from Mallorca with fish and rice dishes.
