Produced by bodega Máximo Abete, Guerinda + La Rosa is a characterful Spanish rosé wine from DO Navarra.
The grapes of this vino de pueblo (village wine) are sourced from two Grenache vineyards located on the outskirts of San Martín de Unx, a village in the Sierra de Guerinda mountain range at roughly 450 metres of altitude. Farmed following environmentally friendly techniques, the vines are around 25 years old.
The 2021 vintage was defined by an April frost that caused the production to be 40% below average. After a dry summer, some timely showers in September revitalized the grapes and allowed them to ripen slowly and steadily. In the end, the quality of the fruit was nothing short of outstanding.
Hand-picked and fully destemmed, the grapes were cold-macerated with the skins for 8 hours before being drawn-off by gravity (a process called “sangrado de lágrima”, the local equivalent of the French rosé de saignée.) After that, this rosé wine from Navarra was fermented and aged for 9 months in used French oak barrels with periodic pump-overs.
Bottled in August 2022, Guerinda La Rosa 2021 rosé wine was aged for a further months before its commercial release.
The production of this Crianza rosé wine is extremely limited: only 1,726 bottles.
