There is an interesting story behind Gran Claustro Cuvée Especial, a Cava from bodega Castillo Perelada.
In 1959, when US President Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Spain, this Spanish sparkling wine was served at the official reception.
A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, 25% of the Chardonnay must was fermented in French oak barrels on its lees for 4 months. The rest of this , as well as the Pinot Noir must, was fermented in stainless steel tanks.
After that, Gran Claustro Cuvée Especial Brut Nature 2017 was bottled to complete secondary fermentation.
Finally, this Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature was aged for over 30 months in the bottle before its commercial release.
This is a charming Cava from L’Empordà.
