An interesting Mediterranean Eiswein, conceived along the lines of the famed icewines produced in Germany and Canada, there is a significant difference between Gramona Vi de Glass Gewürztraminer and the northern-climate icewines. While the latter are produced from naturally frozen grapes, this sweet Spanish white wine is made from grapes frozen in the cellar,
The winemaking process goes as follows. Once in the facilities of the Gramona winery, the overripe Gewürztraminer grapes, coming from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards, were frozen with liquid nitrogen until they reached a temperature of -15ºC.
After fermenting for over 2 months in stainless steel tanks, Gramona Vi de Glass Gewürztraminer 2021 was bottled.
This delicious sweet wine from Penedès will certainly improve over the next years.
Also known as Vi de Gel Gramona, this sweet wine is excellent with coffee and desserts. For a less conventional pairing, try it with foie or soft cheese.
