A classic DOCa Rioja red blend, Gómez Cruzado Honorable is produced by the Gómez Cruzado winery from old vineyards composed of different types soils and planted across the slopes of Sierra Cantabria, from Lanciego to Labastida.
A blend of Tempranillo with some Grenache and Graciano, the 2017 vintage of this Spanish red wine was defined by a spring frost which, occurring in late April after an unusually mild winter followed by an early bud break, caused severe damage to the vineyards.
Each parcel was separately harvested and vinified. The destemmed grapes were destemmed and macerated uncrushed to extract colour and tannin in a gentle manner, and then this red wine from La Rioja was fermented in tanks with periodic pump-overs.
Then the red wine Gómez Cruzado Honorable 2017 was aged for 18 months in 80% French oak and 20% American oak barrels.
Bottled in mid-2021, it was further aged for 12 to 18 months before hitting the market.
Decant this Crianza red wine at least 30 minutes before drinking.
