Coming from DOP Cebreros-Sierra de Gredos, one of Spain’s hottest wine regions, Garnacha de Arrayán is a varietal Spanish red wine produced from old Grenache vineyards.
This single parcel Crianza red wine was crafted by Bodegas Arrayán from over 60-year-old vineyards grown in steep slate slopes near Cebreros (Ávila), at roughly 1,000 metres of altitude.
Hand-picked and carefully selected, the grapes were vinified with 30% stems in French oak vats under. After a 3-day cold maceration this Grenache from Gredos was spontaneously fermented under controlled temperature, after which it was macerated for 37 days before going through malolactic fermentation.
After that, the red wine Garnacha de Arrayán 2016 was aged in 4,300-litre French oak vats for 14 months before being bottled.
It is worth noting that this is not an ethereal, Pinot Noir-like Garnacha de Gredos. Think Priorat instead of Burgundy.
Only 6,000 bottles produced.
