Produced by the French oenologist Olivier Rivière, Ganko is an exquisite Spanish red wine crafted following a minimal intervention approach.
A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mazuelo (a.k.a Carignan) coming from old vines located at an altitude over 570 metres in the town of Cárdenas, belonging to La Rioja Alta.
The vines are 60 to 80 years of age and have very low yields.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were vinified with their stems with periodic pump-overs and punch-downs.
After that, this Crianza red wine was aged for 16 to 18 months in old wooden vats and huge barrels in order not to distort the expression of fruit and terroir with overbearing oaky notes.
The name of this Rioja red wine, incidentally, is the Japanese word for «stubborn». A description that perfectly depicts Mr. Rivière’s will to make uncompromisingly terroir-bound wines.
Decant Ganko 2016 1 hour before drinking.
4,000 bottles produced.
