Bodega En Números Vermells, the personal project of winemaker Silvia Puig, is the producer of En Números Vermells Etiqueta Negra, a top-notch, under-the-radar Spanish red wine from DOQ Priorat.
A totally indigenous blend of Grenache, Hairy Grenache and Carignan, the grapes are sourced from vineyards planted on steep slate slopes near Torroja and Bellmunt del Priorat.
Hand-picked and selected on site, the grapes were vinified in new and 2nd year French oak barrels and clay vessels.
After a long post-fermentation maceration, the red wine En Números Vermells Etiqueta Negra 2020 was aged for 13 months in the barrels.
Given its depth and concentration, it is crucial to decant this Crianza red wine 1 hour before drinking at the very least.
As usual, the production of the 2020 vintage was extremely low: only 1,492 bottles.
This red wine from Priorat should evolve nicely in the bottle.

| Nose | Tight and packed with information, this blend of Grenache, Hairy Grenache and Carignan is deeply mineral and smokey, with notes of crushed shale and wet stones, intense aromas of blueberries and strawberry fruits, and hints of bitter cocoa, flowers, liquorice and ground coffee. | Palate | Definitely rich, but not jammy or overripe, this red wine of En Números Vermells really needs some time to unfurl. Impressively balanced, with powdery tannins and a linear, metallic acidity. Smoked black fruit, bitter cocoa and herbs de Provence, giving way to a long finish with a berryish and bitter aftertaste. |
