Produced solely from Mataró, which is the local name of the well known Monastrell grape, Dolç Mataró is crafted by the Alta Alella winery.
Interestingly, this Spanish sweet red wine is produced from some of the vineyards nearest to the city of Barcelona, at a distance of only 2 km to the Mediterranean sea. The vines grow in the sandy soils typical of the DO Alella, locally known as Sauló.
Farmed following the guidelines of organic farming, the grapes were late harvested, fermented and then macerated with the skins for 6 months in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs.
Then they were pressed, and finally Dolç Mataró 2020 was aged for 2 months in French oak barrels.
This sweet red wine from Alella is sensuous and captivating.
