This is the new Spanish red wine of the AT Roca winery branch in DO Montsant, known as Companyia Vitícola Sileo.
Virtually a varietal Grenache, complemented with a tiny amount of Carignan, Costers de Cornudella was produced from grapevines 20 to 85 years of age planted on the hills of Cornudella del Montsant, a scenic village on the border between DO Montsant and DOQ Priorat.
The grapes were sorted from several plots with different soil compositions – limestone, clay-limestone and slate – and sun orientations, at altitudes between 500 and 700 metres above sea level.
Traditionally vinified, this Crianza red wine was fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks. After that, Costers de Cornudella 2020 was aged for 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels and clay amphorae.
This a nuanced, fresh, terroir-bound red wine from Montsant.
