The Viñedos del Contino winery produces Contino Blanco from vineyards grown near the Ebro river.
This blended Spanish white wine from La Rioja combines three grape varieties, all of them planted at an altitude above 400 metres. The White Grenache grapes come from Pago Las Anchas, a parcel planted with 40-year-old vines. The Malvasía is sourced from over 90-year-old vines grown in alluvial soils with an abundance of rocks and sand. Finally, the Viura comes from three parcels: Lentisco, San Gregorio La Tabla and Finca Santa María, planted with 30 to 40-year-old vines.
After a manual harvest, the grapes were macerated with the skins, drawn-off, pressed and separately fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Once the process was completed, a 30% of this Crianza white wine was transferred into concrete diposits, and the rest went into new and 2nd year French oak barrels of different sizes. After that, Contino Blanco 2019 was aged for 10 months on its lees.
Finally, this white wine from Rioja was transferred again into steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation was not carried out in order to preserve the acidity of the wine.
Pair with hearty recipes.
