The flagship Spanish white wine of Mas d’en Gil, one of the oldest and most venerable wineries in DOQ Priorat, Coma Blanca is also one of the absolute best white wines of the region.
A truly «Priorat Grand Cru» of astonishing depth and finesse, this Crianza white wine is made from a blend of old-vines White Grenache and Macabeo sorted from two vineyards planted in 1941 and 1945, in an area with a rich tapestry of soils situated in Bellmunt del Priorat. That diversity is an uncommon feature in a region where slate soils are by far the most predominant.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed and cold-macerated for 8 hours to facilitate the extraction of aromatic components. The wine was then fermented in oak barrels at a controlled temperature, after which it was aged on lees for a period of 6 months. It was gently filtered before bottling.
Finally, Coma Blanca 2017 was aged for a further 24 months before its commercial release.
It is essential to decant this white wine from Priorat for a substantial amount of time before drinking.
If possible, serve in large, white Burgundy-type glasses.
This blended biodynamic white wine should evolve nicely in the bottle.
