This is the fourth vintage of Cartago Paraje del Pozo, a high-end Spanish red wine produced by winemaker Mariano García through Bodegas Maurodos.
This single varietal Tinta de Toro is made exclusively from the vines planted in Paraje del Pozo, a little plot with sandy soils located at 700 metres of altitude in the northeastern area of the DO Toro.
The ungrafted, over 45-year-old Tinta de Toro (or Tempranillo) vines were meticulously harvested, and the grapes were selected on site. Once in the cellar, they were destemmed and fermented for 2 to 3 weeks with indigenous yeasts.
Transferred into new and used French oak barrels, Cartago Paraje del Pozo 2018 was aged for a period of 30 months. Bottled in July 2021, it was aged for a further 16 months before its commercial release.
Decant Cartago at least 2 hours before drinking.
This remarkable red wine from Toro has a production of only 3,745 bottles.
