A high-altitude Spanish red wine produced by Celler Batlliu de Sort, Biu de Sort Negre is made from vineyards perched at 850 metres of altitude in the region of Pallars Sobirà (Lleida), in the North West of Catalonia.
A varietal Pinot Noir from DO Costers del Segre, the vines are grown in decomposed slate soils. Despite the altitude, the climate of the area is quite benign.
Fermented in stainless steel tanks with frequent punch-downs and pump-overs, the wine subsequently completed malolactic fermentation in the same deposits.
Finally, Biu de Sort Negre 2021 was aged in stainless steel containers for over a period of 10 months.
This is a varietal high-altitude red wine with an Atlantic character.
