Produced by Bodegas Belote, the red wine Belote Prieto Picudo comes from a remote and long-forgotten wine producing area in the province of Valladolid, DO Tierra de León.
Interestingly, this Spanish red wine was vinified and aged in an underground cave dug over 500 years ago.
Made solely from Prieto Picudo, a high tannin indigenous red variety, the grapes are sourced from 15-year-old vineyards planted in the village of Mayorga de Campos, at 900 metres of altitude. The vines are farmed with minimal intervention techniques to fully preserve the character of the variety.
After fermenting spontaneously in concrete tanks, this red wine from Tierra de León was transferred into French oak barrels.
Before being bottled, Belote Prieto Picudo 2019 was aged for 12 months in the barrels.
Decant this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
Pair with meat dishes and legume recipes.
Only 3,500 bottles produced.
