Produced by Mas d’en Gil, Bellmunt is a blend of the traditional Priorat varieties Grenache and Samsó (Carignan). The grapes were sorted from the youngest vines of the winery, planted in llicorella (slate) soils between 1994 and 1998.
Since this Spanish red wine is made solely from vines located near the the village of Bellmunt del Priorat, it is legally recognised as a Vi de Vila (A «Village Wine», to put it in Burgundian terms).
Harvested by hand, both grape varieties were separately vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Then this Crianza red wine was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels of different sizes. Finally, Bellmunt 2019 was blended and aged for further 12 months in the bottle before its commercial release.
Pair this Priorat red wine with stews and meat recipes.
