Winemaker Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, head of Finca Allende, is one of the top players in the current La Rioja wine scene. Allende Blanco is one of his best creations. An age-worthy Spanish white wine made basically from Viura and a dollop of Malvasía (5%).
Grown following environmentally friendly procedures, the grapes come from vineyards with an average age of 55 years. Planted in different kinds of soils with different solar orientations, the grapevines are located in area that surrounds the facilities of the winery in the town of Briones, Rioja.
The harvest of this white wine from La Rioja was carried out manually. Carefully selected in the cellar, the grapes were subsequently crushed and drawn off, after which the free-run juice was transferred into French oak barrels and aged for 14 months.
During the first 7 months, Allende Blanco 2018 was kept in contact with its lees, which were stirred twice a week. After that, the wine was racked and spent another 7 months ageing without its lees. The wine was gently filtered prior to being bottled in April 2020. Then it was kept for 36 months in the cellar before hitting the market.
Pair this Crianza white wine with white meat, baked fish and creamy and semi-hard cheeses.
