The prestigious Jorge Ordóñez founded Bodegas La Caña in 2003 with the aim of creating high-quality Spanish white wines. Almost two decades later, and with the aid of New Zelander oenologist Natalie Christensen, he has undoubtedly fulfilled his goal.
A varietal Albariño from DO Rías Baixas, Albariño La Caña is made from grapes coming from a selection of 12 of the 38 little plots planted before 1990 in Valle del Salnés. The grapes come from low-yielding vines, an all of the vinification process is carried out following traditional techniques.
Manually harvested, 25% of the Albariño grapes were fermented in 500 and 600-litre French oak barrels, while the rest completed the process in stainless steel tanks. Then it was aged for 8 months on its lees. After that, Albariño La Caña 2021 was blended and aged for a further months.
This varietal white wine from Rías Baixas has consistently received accolades and high scores by some of the world’s top wine critics.
